Head of Estates (Interim role, 6 months full-time)

A major Edinburgh visitor attraction is looking to recruit a "Head of Estates" on a 6 months full-time Interim role.

The purpose of this role is to lead the Works and Gardens functions across the Organisation, contribute to the strategy and deliver transformational change within the visitor attraction environment.  Contribute to the development of the Organisation in achieving its Mission and Aims.  This is a key role which is part of the Senior Management Group (SMG).

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Strategy

·     Develop the estates strategy to link to overall organisation strategy, identifying resources required to maintain and develop the estates in the medium to long term

·     Contribute to, and implement, a strategy of transformational change across the Organisation to be delivered by the Works and Gardens functions

·     Work tirelessly and collaboratively with all other appropriate departments to deliver the strategy, ie, Visitor Services, Commercial, etc

 

Works

  • Lead the programme for the reactive maintenance team, ensuring team members have clear roles and make effective contribution
  • Lead the programme for the projects team, ensuring team have clear roles and make effective contribution
  • Deliver all projects on time and to budget

 

Gardens                                                                                  

  • Lead the programme for the gardens team
  • Support the manager to deliver the agreed plans for gardens and landscape on time and to budget

 

Facilities

 

  • Manage the cleaning contract (currently being re-tendered), ensuring value for money and effective performance
  • Manage the gates and security of visitor attraction
  • Manage the utilites use, contracts and billing, including money-saving initiatives in conjunction with other depts

 

Creative and Design

 

·      Working closely with appropriate departments, lead the transformation of the organisation as a visitor attraction, taking account of all stakeholders and delivering an excellent experience for the visitor


SMG

To contribute to the senior management group in developing and managing the business


Team Management

To manage staff, hold regular 121s and carry out formal appraisal


Other
To implement all appropriate policies of the Society
To continue with professional development where appropriate.

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

 

Qualifications, training and relevant experience

Qualified to degree-level or holds an equivalent professional qualification, the successful candidate will have proven experience of planning, construction and build, operational knowledge of team and people management and excellent understanding of planning, building and health and safety legislation.  Proven experience in hospitality/tourist/visitor attraction environment beneficial.
